Mission

The purpose of the Alameda Photographic Society is: to promote the art and science of photography in its various forms through the association of its members for study and entertainment; to encourage photographic contests and exhibitions; and to stimulate greater interest and advancement in the knowledge and practice of photography.

Meetings

We meet three times a month on the 1st, 2nd and 4th Tuesdays via Zoom. Visitors are always welcome at these meetings, but you must be a member to submit images to Competition and Show and Tell,

First Tuesdays are Show and Tell.  If you have an image that you want to talk about, tell us why you took it, what you had to do to get the image, or special processing you did to improve the image then submit it.  If you have multiple versions of the same image and you want to know what the feeling is for each image, submit them as a sequence.  Or maybe you have multiple images of the same subject, taken from different angles, and again you want to know what the feeling is for the images, submit a sequence.  Also, our host, Stephen Hinchey will present images for the club members to discuss, not to suggest improvements, but to talk about art, the meaning of the images and how the images impact viewers.

Second Tuesdays are Competition Nights, where digital images are critiqued by an outside judge.  Winning images in competitions are then entered into a regional competition where they are judged against the work of other clubs who are part of the Northern California Council of Camera Clubs (N4C).  Competitions are in six categories: Pictorial, Creative, Journalism, Monochrome, Nature, and Travel.

The club has it's own category each month; Challenge of the Month, the winner of this category picks a topic for the next month's submissions. Past topics have included; "Concrete", "Curves", "Night", and "Hats".

Fourth Tuesdays are program meetings, where we invite a member or guest speaker to talk about a particular area of photography, or we may hold a mini field trip in the Park St area.
